Philadelphia Mixing Solutions to Lead Eight Sessions
at Upcoming
North American Mixing Forum

PALMYRA, Pa., June 22, 2010 – At next week’s 22nd annual North American Mixing Forum (NAMF), experts from Philadelphia Mixing Solutions Ltd. (PMSL) will lead a conference program and seven poster sessions highlighting a variety of issues affecting the mixing industry. The conference, which runs from June 20th through June 25th, will be held at the Hotel Grand Pacific in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.

Chris Hibshman, project manager for PMSL’s Clean Air Division, will deliver the podium presentation:

  • Novel Design for a Magnesium-Enhanced Lime Ex-Situ Gypsum Crystallizer is a conference program scheduled for 8:45 a.m. on Thursday, June 24th and will highlight how this design has shown a 50 percent reduction of compressor power with a net energy savings that may be in the range of 20-30 percent.

Wojciech Wyczalkowski, director of research and development for PMSL, Todd Hutchinson, general manager of Advanced Solutions Engineering Division for PMSL, and Chris Hibshman will lead the seven poster sessions, which include:

  • Improved Mass Transfer Efficiency in Wet Limestone Flue Gas Desulfurization will focus on a new design of air injection technology that increases mass transfer coefficient up to 30 percent, compared with a traditional lance injection.

  • Solids Suspension at Low Liquid Level Mixing will introduce an innovative mixing approach that varies the pumping rate depending on the level in the tank, eliminating excessive hydraulic loads during draw down, and will pump fluid at tank levels as low as 12 percent of the tank diameter.

  • CFD Mixing Design in Large Petroleum Storage Vessels. In this session, attendees will hear numerous results of mixing CFD experiments and validation for different vessel sizes, multiple mixers, impeller types and configurations.

  • Energy Efficient Rapid Mixing in Water Plant. This session will show how different chambers’ geometry and injection points affect mixing quality and how to save on mixing energy.

  • Energy Efficient Impeller Design for Anoxic Mixing Services… a session that will focus on an impeller design fabricated using composite plastic materials. The impeller performance is reviewed and compared to different impeller technologies used for anoxic mixing.

  • Energy Savings and Improved Mixing Performance of High Consistency Cellulose with Modified Impeller Technology. Here, Wyczalkowski will describe the provincials of a new technology, case studies and measurement of mixing performances and biosolids properties.

  • Novel Super-Pitch, Circular Rake, Cambered, Zero-Velocity-Sump Propeller Design Performance Evaluated as a Function of the Number of Blades. This presentation discusses a second generation super-pitch propeller design that is optimized for the mixing condition where the prop diameter is small, compared to the diameter of the mixing vessel, such that the fluid velocity at the prop leading edge equals that associated with fluid drawn from a stationary pump.
