08/04/2011 - Uptime, Not Just a Magazine
Uptime – not just a magazine, it’s on every maintenance manager’s goal list – and PMSL is here to help. Periodic inspections may lengthen the life of your mixing equipment.
PMSL’s Inspect and Repair program aids in just that. Our CMM (Coordinate Measurement Machine) allows us to check each housing component to ensure it is within design tolerances. Over the life of a gearbox in service, its housing may begin to rack. The twisting rocking motion works the mounting bolts and dowel pin holes wearing them oversized and misshapen. With the dowel pin holes oversized, the upper and lower housings become misaligned. This, in turn, interrupts the bearings alignment and gear mesh.

The bores in the housing are also validated to ensure all gearing will align correctly and bearings are not subject to a preload state which may shorten the useful life of the gearbox.
A repair without validation of the housing components is really only half a repair. Units that are rebuilt without being validated may experience shorter useful life, or an elevated number of repairs leaving the customer’s process down more than necessary, and reducing their budget dollars more quickly.
