Maintaining Your Mixer Lubrication System
Posted by: Todd HutchinsonThe life blood of a mixer drive is its lubrication system, which provides an oil film at the contacting surfaces of all the working components to reduce friction and wear, and dissipates heat to prevent temperatures from rising to excessive levels. If the lubrication system fails in any of these functions, it could result in the premature breakdown of your mixer drive.
Given the vital role of the lubrication system in the overall life and performance of your mixer drive, keeping it well maintained is essential. The areas to check for a properly functioning lubrication system are: lubricant cleanliness and condition; appropriate level (not over or under filled); flow and pressure; breather blockage; visual component check; sound levels; and grease points.
A systematic method of inspection, condition verification, and documentation as well as partnering with your mixer manufacturer can provide further insights into operation and maintenance of your lubrication system and avoid unexpected lubrication system failures leading to equipment failure and possible shutdowns. Your mixer manufacturer should be able to provide service, tools, or products to help you maintain your lubrication system.
